How important is website speed? Consumer patience for website loading is generally 3 seconds or less, EVEN if you have a product or service they want. Ask yourself, how many times do you press the back button on a website as it takes too long to load? How long did you wait?
See it’s not just visitors to your website, it’s all of us visiting any website!
Speed
In the video below, I use gtmetrix.com to test the website speed of our own website, kiiff.com. When it comes to speed there is a metric called Time To First Byte, or TTFB.
Time to first byte measures how long it takes the client (browser) to receive the first code 200 (aka the first successful transmission of data). The benchmark of this speed was given a numerical time of 600ms, which came from Google here.
I talk about how TTFB is largely dependent on your web host. If you are with a web host that is using old frameworks and outdated technology, you’re TTFB is likely longer than 600ms. The best decision you can make for your website is to switch web hosts.
